Announcing: Songs Like Seeds

Songs Like Seeds: A new monthly singing opportunity...
October 18, November 22, December 20
Sara is starting a monthly gathering to cultivate the joy of informal community singing. Different than the Echoes of Peace Choir, Sara will not be teaching specific harmony parts or preparing the group for performing. In a casual atmosphere, reminiscent of a camp fire sing-a-long, Sara will lead the singing of familiar and new songs carefully selected for their enriching themes and qualities. Songs sung with intention, like seeds planted with care, can take root in an individual or community and flower into unexpected fruits: simple joy, healing balm, increased sensitivity, awe and wonder, a re-enchanted and revitalized spirit, a grounding and centeredness, a deepening of compassion.

Time: 6:30-8pm, for three Mondays: October 18, November 22, December 20
Cost: $30 for the three sessions
Location: McCabe Renewal Center, 2125 Abbotsford Ave., Duluth
Registration: Space is limited to 30 participants, so pre-registration is encouraged!

To register, send an email to, or call, McCabe Renewal Center.

September 2010 events

The choir has been invited to sing at two community events this September:

At 4pm on Sunday, September 19 we will open and close a talk & discussion by guest speaker Mary Ann Pevas who has lived and worked in Iran, Pakistan, Egypt, and other parts of the Middle East.  Mary Ann Pevas, O.P., a Dominican Sister, and consultant to Middle Eastern bankers, is currently working to dispel the myths about Islam which cause fear and hatred, and to build bridges of understanding between the United States and the Middle East.  This invitation came from Barb Weller (in the tenor section). View poster.

7:30pm, Wednesday, September 29, at Somers Hall, College of St. Scholastica,
in Duluth we will sing at the Duluth-Rania Friendship Exchange Public Reception. This will be an chance to meet Duluth's new friends from Iraqi Kurdistan and to learn more about the Duluth-Rania Friendship Exchange Project, which is building bridges of peace through friendship exchange, sharing culutural, civic and social ideals. Refreshments will be served and the choir will sing. The event is free, but donations welcome to support the project. http://www.duluth-rania.org.

Our spring 2009 choir concert, "Beauty & Tenacity," helped raise funds for sending a group from Duluth to Rania. Now we have the opportunity to welcome a group from Rania, Iraq in our midst. Come be part of welcoming them in song!
